Amazon is facing a £2.7 billion collective action lawsuit in the UK, filed by Prof Andreas Stephan of the University of East Anglia on behalf of 200,000 third-party sellers. The lawsuit accuses Amazon of abusing its market dominance by favoring its own products and logistics services, and imposing Prime membership conditions that disadvantage competitors. Claimants also argue that Amazon disrupts inter-platform competition, making it harder for vendors to offer lower prices on other platforms. This opt-out lawsuit includes eligible sellers automatically and is cost-free for them. Amazon, confident that the claims are baseless, insists that its success is tied to the success of its independent sellers. This follows similar lawsuits and anti-trust investigations from EU and UK authorities.
